How do I change my major to Industrial Distribution?

Change of major requests into ID are considered during the fall and spring semesters only. Interested students must submit an application to the ID Program Office no later than one week prior to Q-drop deadline.  Applications are available as early as the first day of class during the fall and spring terms  in the ID Office located in Fermier Hall, room 204.

Applications must be submitted to the program office during the application period.  Applicants will be notified 2 weeks after the application deadline if they have been accepted.

At that point, you will need to fill out a change of major form in the program office.

All applicants must have a cumulative TAMU GPR of 2.5+ at time of application for consideration.

The program is always full, so the anticipated number of graduates from the major has to be determined before students can be allowed to change curriculum into the major. You may discuss the possibility of transfer at any time with an advisor in the Industrial Distribution office.

The courses listed in my catalog are no longer being offered. What should I take instead?

In order to improve the quality of the education provided in our department and to best prepare our students for careers in Industrial Distribution, several changes have been made to the content and numbering of our courses. The following is a list of recent or future changes. If you have already taken any of these courses as they were originally numbered, you DO NOT have to take them again.

IDIS 414 = IDIS 343
ENTC 373 and ENTC 403 = ENTC 489 = IDIS 403
ENTC 181 and ENTC 380 = ENTC 489 = IDIS 281
ENTC 330 = IDIS 300
ENTC 430 = IDIS 400
MKTG 435 and MKTG 436 = IDIS 430

My advisor told me I could substitute a class I have already taken for one in my degree plan, but my degree audit still shows I have not met the requirements for that class. How can I fix this?

You need to complete and submit a substitution request. Your advisor may already have one prepared for you that has not yet been processed. Please check with the ID Academic Advisor. Substitution Request forms are available at the ID Program front desk in Fermier 204. You may leave completed requests in the advisor's signature folder to be picked up the next day. At that time, the request must be taken to Fermier 106 to be processed.

May I take ENGL 210 for ENGL 301?

Yes. You can also take the course (ENGL 210) at Blinn, or by correspondence. The course equivalent is ENGL 2311.

May I co-enroll at Blinn?

Yes, for courses such as ENGL 104, SCOM 203, ENGL 301(210), etc., if it is not feasible for them to be taken at TAMU. You will need to obtain a co-enrollment form from your advisor and have it completed (especially the portion which asks for the reason for the request) and signed with the appropriate signatures before enrolling at Blinn.

What does it mean to be blocked?

You can be blocked from obtaining a transcript, you can be blocked from registration and you can be blocked from graduation. Some of the most common reasons for being blocked are:

    • Academic Probation
    • Fines, fees due (past due balance, loan payment due, traffic tickets, etc.)
    • Closet Major (taking classes from one major while being in another)
    • Needing to see an advisor to obtain proper registration of classes

Find out how to check if you are blocked from registration.

How do I obtain my GPA in my major?

For ID majors, the following courses are used to determine your GPA in your major: (if you don't want to calculate your grades, your major GPA is shown on page 2 of your degree audit, which you can accessed through BONFIRE):

    • STAT 201/303, ACCT 209, ACCT 210, ECON 202, ECON 203, MGMT 212, MGMT 309, ENGL 210, IDIS 240, IDIS 281, IDIS 300, IDIS 340, IDIS 343, IDIS 344, IDIS 364, IDIS 400, IDIS 403, IDIS 424, IDIS 430, IDIS 434, IDIS 444, ENTC 206

How do I get into upper level?

For catalogs numbered 120 and above, you must complete ENDG 105, ENGL 104, IDIS 144, MATH 141, CHEM 102/112 or CHEM 107, IDIS 240, MATH 151, and meet or exceed the GPA requirements set forth by the Industrial Distribution Program (please see the ID academic advisor for current GPA requirements). Other classes which are helpful to have completed BEFORE upper level entry are PHYS 201 and 202, and ACCT 209 and 210.

How do I join P.A.I.D.?

See one of the officers and/or attend a meeting. PAID activity notices are posted copiously around Fermier and Thompson halls. Visit the PAID office in 204 Fermier Hall, and be sure to visit PAID's web page

How do I get into SIGMA DELTA?

You must be ranked in the top ten percent of ALL ID majors, have at least upper level status and have completed at least 3 hours of IDIS courses. You will be notified by the society when you have qualified. Visit the P.A.I.D. web site for more information on Sigma Delta.

How many humanities do we really need?

For students enrolled in catalog 122 and previous, University core curriculum requires 6 hours of humanities electives, so you would need to take two 3 hour courses. SOCI and PSYC will not be accepted. Please consult your catalog for a listing of accepted substitutions. For students enrolled in catalog 123, University core curriculum requires 3 hours of humanities electives and 3 hours of visual and performing arts electives. SOCI and PSYC will not be accepted for either requirement.

What final preparations do I need to do to graduate?

When you are ready to register for your final semester, you may add your diploma fee to your fee statement after you register for classes. You will need to fill out a degree aplication on-line at http://degreeapp.tamu.edu.Your obligation is to see that your degree audit is complete and that all substitutions have been made. If you have questions, see your advisor. Regularly scheduled visits to your advisor will help you avoid last minute "surprises."

Field Trips:

Field trips are offered every Spring and Fall semester to students in the Industrial Distribution Program. Trips have been made to Dallas, Austin, and Houston to distributors and manufacturers who hire our graduates. They provide great insight into the industry which Industrial Distribution serves. Prior arrangements should be made with the professors of any classes and/or labs which will be missed due to the field trip. Field trips are not university excused absences

I am confused about the math requirements.

For catalogs 120 and higher: The required math courses are MATH 151 and MATH 141, but MATH 152 or MATH 166 may be substituted (but is not recommended) for the required MATH 141.

For catalogs 119 and before: MATH 150 is a refresher course to MATH 151. If you are good at math (scored high on the pre-math testing) you need not take MATH 150. HOWEVER, if you do not take MATH 150, the hours required will still need to be filled. See your advisor for the appropriate substitutes. IF you do not or did not need to take MATH 150, then MATH 151 and 152 or MATH 151 and MATH 141 will suffice for MATH courses. However, it needs to be stated that the hours for MATH 150 still need to be met through substitution with a technical elective. See your advisor for appropriate selection of such a course.
